Kim Lake
singer/composer/film artist
A lover of the quiet, blurs the lines, with her minimalist approach to sound. Raised in St. Louis, Mo. she was heavily influenced by B.A.G.
(The Black Artist Group), a avantgarde jazz movement. She has imbibed the ethos that music is the medicine and developed her free, open, and intimate sound. She has worked with the late Geri Allen, Meshell Ndegeocello, The Roots, Angelique Kidjo, Oliver Lake Big Band, Vernon Reid, Mary J. Blige, Bilal, De La Soul, Marc Cary, Black Rock Coalition, James Hurt and others.
She has appeared on Saturday Night Live and in the Sundance Award winning film, Alive Inside, based on the healing powers of music.
Little Church, an experimental film she produced debuted at the Billie Holiday Film Festival in Brooklyn, NY.

Back for another year of unrestricted improvising string sets, the Firey Strings Company partners with 52 Studio Arts in presenting IMPROV Xlll , an exciting program of cutting edge artists from NYC and beyond. Improvisers, Jazz artists, World renowned musicians, electronic specialist, acoustic players all converge on #JazzDay as part of the Herbie Hancock Institute's International Jazz Day Festival. For IMPROVXll String players and composers will showcase new techniques, sing , play, working electronic instruments and new ideas.
